FASTOMEGA™ is a high-purity, concentrated omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids medical food that can be administered orally after dilution, directly through a nasogastric tube, or through a jejunum nutrition tube.

1. Usage and dosage for oral administration

Dosage before surgery: One to two pouches per day (120ml-240ml), divide into two times for oral administration. Recommended to be taken after meal (preferably after breakfast and dinner).

It`s recommended patients to start to use one to two pouches (120ml-240ml) per day from 7 days before surgery, or follow doctors or certified dieticians` dosage regimen, to rapidly improve the level of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body.

Dosage after surgery: when patients are able to eat (liquid, semi-liquid, or normal food) after surgery, FASTOMEGATM can be used one to two pouches per day (120ml-240ml), divide into two times for oral administration for 14-21 days to ensure the effective enrichment of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on cells membrane in organs, and it`s recommended to be taken after meal (preferably after breakfast and dinner).

Usage: After opening the cap of the flexible package, pour 60ml of FASTOMEGATM into the measuring cup, and add 60ml of water, gently stir for 10 seconds, then take it orally. Tighten the cap and save the remaining unused FASTOMEGATM for next use.

Opened FASTOMEGA™ need to be take completely within 24 hours, and it is NOT recommended to use if FASTOMEGA™ opened more than 24 hours.

2. The usage and dosage of nasogastric feeding

The dosage of before surgery: if patients can orally take it, please follow the instruction “1 Usage and dosage for oral administration”.

If it is necessary to use nasogastric feeding, take one pouch at a time with 20nl/hour dripping speed every day. It`s recommended to be used after having full nutrition food.

It`s recommended patients to start to use one to two pouches (120ml-240ml) per day from 7 days before surgery, or follow doctors or certified dieticians` dosage regimen, to rapidly improve the level of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body.

Dosage for after surgery: When patients can take enteral nutrition feeding after surgery, FASTOMEGATM could be used one to two pouches per day with 20ml/hour dripping speed. It`s recommended to be used after having full nutrition food. Continuously use for 14-21 days to ensure a higher level of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on cells membrane in organs.

Usage: after carefully opening the cap of the flexible package, connect with the conical joint (or capped joint) of the nasogastric feeding tube, make sure there is no leakage. Hang the flexible package upside down on the infusion rack (there is a hole on the flexible package). Then turn on the peristaltic pump and control the dripping rate at 20ml/hour for continuous use.

3. The usage and dosage of using jejunal nutrient tube:

Dosage before surgery: One to two pouches of FASTOMEGATM a day (120ml-240ml) divided into two times, and it`s recommended to be taken after meal (preferably after breakfast and dinner).

FASTOMEGA™ is a high purity content of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids preparations, mainly contains Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (DHA + EPA, comes from the deep-sea fish), medium chain fatty acids (MCT, from coconut oil and palm kernel oil). FASTOMEGA™ is a kind of medical food which is suitable for the elective surgery patients who need to quickly supplement Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. In general, taking high purity Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids is beneficial to human health, but the following situation may occur, although the incidence is very low: (1) people who allergic to fish or seafood may also appear allergic symptoms; (2) may adjust the blood sugar level; (3) Omega-3 fatty acids can cause lower blood pressure, as a result, people who are taking hypotensive drugs may get a lower blood pressure when they take FASTOMEGA™.

In general, Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can cause the following adverse reactions: belching, halitosis, heartburn, nausea, loose stools, dizziness, rash and nosebleeds. However, when taking it after a meal can reduce these side effects. The adverse events associated with MCT include gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and indigestion). This may be due to the rapid hydrolysis of MCT in the intestine and the accumulation of high concentrations of medium chain fatty acids in the small intestine. Syncope and vertigo are rarely reported (<1/500), and patients with a history of bradycardia or hypotension, or who take drugs (such as antihypertensives and cholinesterase inhibitors) that may induce these effects.
